EFF

The EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) is a South African political party founded in 2013. The party was established by former African National Congress Youth League president Julius Malema and other expelled ANC Youth League leaders. The EFF positions itself as a radical left-wing organisation advocating for economic emancipation, land redistribution without compensation, and nationalisation of mines, banks and other strategic sectors. The party is known for its distinctive red berets and overalls, symbolising its working-class orientation. The EFF has grown to become the third-largest party in South Africa's National Assembly, having secured significant support in successive general elections since its formation. The party holds seats in Parliament and in various provincial legislatures and municipal councils across the country. It has been particularly influential in coalition politics at local government level, where it has entered into agreements with both the ANC and the Democratic Alliance in different municipalities. The EFF is known for its confrontational parliamentary tactics and vocal criticism of government corruption and economic inequality. The party's leadership structure is centralised, with Malema serving as commander-in-chief and the organisation operating through a central command team.
