The MKP has officially expelled Members of Parliament Pumlani Kubukeli and Dr Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala with immediate effect.

The decision, announced by the party's Office of the President, strips both individuals of their party membership and initiates the process to remove them from the National Assembly.

According to the party leadership, the decisive action follows a series of actions and conduct by the two members that negatively impacted the organisation.

The party cited specific grounds for the termination, noting they have been detrimental to the “good name, reputation, integrity and interests of the organisation”, and have undermined the unity and organisational discipline of the party.

The expulsions were executed under president Jacob Zuma, who invoked Section 7(2)(h) of the MKP's constitution, which grants the president the explicit power to establish or restructure organisational components, appoint or remove structures and deployees and act decisively to protect the strategic direction and interests of the party.

The internal party expulsion triggers an immediate loss of their legislative seats.

Following the termination of their membership, the party's secretary-general has written to National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza to formally communicate the decision and to initiate the necessary process for their subsequent removal from the National Assembly.

The party reiterated its commitment to organisational unity, discipline and integrity.

All members and structures are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the party's constitution in the interests of unity and comradeship, the party said.
