The Democratic Alliance has submitted the names of five experienced members of the National Assembly to Speaker, Thoko Didiza. These members will represent the DA in the Impeachment Committee on the Phala Phala matter.

The five MPs are:

- George Michalakis, Parliamentary Leader
- Bax Nodada, Deputy Chief Whip
- Adv Glynnis Breytenbach
- Karabo Khakhau, National Spokesperson
- Nazley Sharif

Khakhau last year exposed the matter around SETAs, which led to the removal of Minister Nobuhle Nkabane as Higher Education Minister. Sharif, in turn, more recently led the accountability attack on Minister Sisisi Tolashe, which led to President Cyril Ramaphosa firing her yesterday.

On the Phala Phala matter, the DA has been clear: where there is a finding of wrongdoing against the President, the DA will hold him accountable as we have done with various members of his cabinet.

We respect the rule of law and have a constitutional duty to hold the executive accountable in a constructive manner, in the best interest of all South Africans.

Issued by Bax Nodada MP - DA Deputy Chief Whip in the National Assembly
