Jack Bloom
Jack Bloom is a Democratic Alliance (DA) member of the Gauteng Legislature in South Africa. He serves as a shadow minister and opposition spokesperson, focusing primarily on health and governance issues within Gauteng province. Bloom has built a reputation as a persistent watchdog over the Gauteng Health Department, regularly raising questions about hospital management, procurement irregularities and patient care standards. His parliamentary interventions frequently target alleged corruption, maladministration and service delivery failures in provincial health facilities including Tembisa Hospital and Pholosong Hospital. He has been vocal in calling for investigations by bodies such as the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) into matters involving public health procurement and financial misconduct. Bloom's oversight work has intersected with high-profile cases, including those involving whistleblowers and allegations of tender fraud within Gauteng's health system. He is known for his use of written questions, media statements and committee hearings to hold the provincial executive to account. His political career in the Gauteng Legislature spans multiple terms, during which he has maintained a focus on transparency, accountability and the protection of public resources in the health sector.
