Citrusdal
Citrusdal is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa, situated in the Cederberg region approximately 170 km north of Cape Town. The town serves as a major centre for citrus production in the country, with the surrounding valley supporting extensive commercial orchards. Citrusdal's economy is dominated by agriculture, particularly the cultivation of oranges, mandarins, lemons and other citrus varieties, alongside wine grapes and rooibos tea. The area benefits from a Mediterranean climate and fertile soils that are well suited to citrus farming. The town provides essential services and infrastructure for the surrounding farming community, including packhouses, cold storage facilities and agricultural supply businesses. Citrusdal is also a gateway to the Cederberg Wilderness Area, which attracts tourists for hiking and rock climbing. The town's name reflects its historical and continuing association with citrus cultivation, which has shaped its economic character since the early twentieth century. Citrusdal falls within the Bergrivier Local Municipality and plays an important role in South Africa's citrus export industry, with fruit from the region shipped to markets in Europe, the Middle East and North America.
