Société Générale is a French multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in Paris. The bank operates across retail banking, corporate and investment banking, asset management and securities services in Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Africa. It is one of the oldest banking institutions in France and ranks among the largest banks in Europe by assets. Société Générale serves individual customers, large corporations, institutional investors and public-sector clients through a network of branches and subsidiaries spanning more than 60 countries. The group employs over 117 000 people worldwide. Its corporate and investment banking division provides financing, advisory and capital markets services to mining, energy and infrastructure clients globally. In Africa, Société Générale has a significant presence through subsidiaries and partnerships in countries including Morocco, Algeria, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana and South Africa, where it offers commercial banking, trade finance and project finance. The bank is listed on the Euronext Paris stock exchange and is a component of the CAC 40 index. Société Générale was founded in 1864 to support the development of French commerce and industry.
