Malusi Gigaba
Malusi Gigaba is a South African politician who has held several senior Cabinet positions in the African National Congress (ANC) government. He is a South African national who rose through the ranks of the ANC Youth League before entering Parliament. Gigaba served as Minister of Public Enterprises from 2010 to 2014, a period during which he oversaw state-owned entities including Transnet, Eskom and South African Airways. He was appointed Minister of Home Affairs in 2014 and later became Minister of Finance in 2017, though his tenure in the finance portfolio was brief and controversial. Gigaba resigned from Parliament in 2019 following sustained criticism of his role in state capture and governance failures at state-owned companies. He has faced legal scrutiny and appeared before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, where testimony implicated him in irregular appointments and decisions that benefited politically connected individuals. His name recurs in coverage of corruption investigations, prosecutions related to state capture, and the work of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption. Gigaba's political career has been marked by allegations of enabling corruption during his oversight of key state entities, though he has denied wrongdoing. He remains a significant figure in discussions of governance failures and accountability in South Africa's public sector during the period of state capture.
