Webber Wentzel received sterling results from Chambers Global 2016, an independent international legal ratings directory. The law firm maintained its top-tier status by obtaining rankings across 18 of its practice areas, 12 of which featured in the top band.

It is also significant that Webber Wentzel attorneys received 49 individual rankings, once again the highest of any law firm in South Africa - further reinforcing its standing as the dominant legal firm in the country.

"This achievement is particularly important to us because it is based on independent market research and client feedback. It is heartening that our client-centric business culture has earned us these favourable reviews as we strive to deliver the best legal service to our clients in the markets we operate.  We are grateful to our clients for continuing to trust us with their matters," says Christo Els, Senior Partner at Webber Wentzel.

The firm received band one rankings in the following practice areas - Banking & Finance; Capital Markets: Debt & Equity, Competition/Antitrust, Corporate/M&A, Dispute Resolution, Energy & Natural Resources: Mining, Environment, IT & Telecommunications, Media & Broadcasting, Projects & Energy As well as Tax.

"The international recognition that comes with the Chambers Global 2016 rankings endorses the firm's outstanding international reputation amongst peers and clients alike. It further reinforces our standing as an industry leader in South Africa," says Els.

The firm is commended for the depth that its range of partners bring to the table and the overall consensus that Webber Wentzel received from its clients, peers and third party commentators was that the firm is 'well established' in many of its practice areas in South Africa with a 'significant presence' in various sectors and a growing profile across the continent.

Chambers Global announced these results today, giving recognition to the world’s best lawyers based on thousands of interviews with clients, lawyers and industry commentators, which were carried out by the largest research team in the industry. It covers 190 countries worldwide and also includes region-wide and global-wide sections. The criteria on which rankings are assessed include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence and commitment.
