By virtue of the powers vested in me by section 139(1) of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000), Emmanuel Nkosinathi Mthethwa, Minister of Police, hereby declares an amnesty as defined in section 138 of the said Act. Under section 139(2)(b) of the Firearms Control Act, 2000, determines the period duing which persons may apply for amnesty to commence on 11 January 2010 until 11 April 2010. This amnesty is rubbish, just another attempt to disarming law abiding citizens. What criminal is going to hand in a weapon if he can not do it anonymously, and with threat of prosecution should that weapon have ever been involved in a crime? What a waste of tax money, once again. If you are the holder of a current license, there is absolutely NO reason to give in your firearm, as these licenses are still being honored pending the outcome of case brought forward by JASA and SA Hunt. Info on their web site, http://www.jasa.za.net/. Our own judges have commented that the Firearms Control Act is unconstitutional!
