Once again there were no major fiscal announcements in the Budget Speech. Some relief is given to individual taxpayers, including adjustments to the rates, and increases in the interest exemptions and medical aid deductions, while changes were also announced in relation to contributions to, and benefits from, pension and provident funds. There were a significant number of tax amendments announced, many of them of a highly technical nature. We have attempted to limit ourselves to matters which are likely to be of more general and widespread interest.
