In the 2024/25 financial year, Wesgro facilitated R14.5 billion in new investment and R5.4 billion in export declarations. This was revealed in a briefing to the Standing Committee on Economic Development and Tourism of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, demonstrating Wesgro’s continued role as a driving force behind the province’s economic development.

Amid rising geopolitical tensions and the imposition of a 30% tariff by the United States, Wesgro’s role in supporting the Western Cape’s trade agenda has become more crucial than ever. By prioritising export promotion, the agency conducted 75 outward trade missions and engaged with 48 countries last year — helping to expand market access and ensure that goods from our province continue to reach international markets.

Alongside these efforts, Wesgro has also embraced the unorthodox. Through the development of the Roblox game Starlight Adventures in the Cape Karoo, the agency has sought to showcase our province’s beauty and culture to a younger audience — an effort that earned it two Bookmark Awards for digital excellence.

Noko Masipa, MPP, DA Western Cape Spokesperson on Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism said, “Wesgro continues to be a strategic asset to the Western Cape. Their work to promote our province in key markets is more important than ever, especially as we confront mounting global trade pressures. By combining trade promotion and targeted investment, they are defending jobs and positioning our province as a trade and tourism hub.”

The DA in the Western Cape will continue to support the work done by Wesgro, which is in line with the Growth for Jobs strategy. Their efforts support local businesses, attract investment, and invites the world to experience everything the Western Cape has to offer.
