President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Tuesday at 2 pm address a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly (NA) and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on the trail of destruction left by the tragic flooding which ravaged parts of the KwaZulu-Natal, resulting in the loss of human life and damage to infrastructure.
 
The catastrophic floods claimed more than 400 lives, left approximately 40 000 people destitute and caused extensive damage to basic infrastructure such as roads, bridges and water, electricity, rail and telecommunication as well as houses and businesses.
 
The President called the Joint Sitting in terms of Section 84 (2) (d) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
 
The National Assembly and the NCOP will on Tuesday convene separate plenaries for the establishment of an Ad Hoc Committee on flood disaster relief and receovery. The NA sitting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at 12 noon, whilst the NCOP will hold a sitting at 12:30.
 
There are 8 (eight) parliamentary committee meetings scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week, as follows:

TUESDAY, 26 APRIL 2022

Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs (National Assembly), will be briefed by the Department of Home Affairs, Electoral Commission and the Government Printing Works on the Annual Performance Plan and budget for 2022/23.
 
Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy, (National Assembly), will be briefed by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy on their Annual Performance Plan for 2022-23 FY and its Budget Vote No. 34; Briefing by the Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC) on their Annual Performance Plan and budget for the 2022-23 FY; Consideration and adoption of minutes: 15 March 2022]
