We note that the DA has announced that it has entered into a relationship with Shaun August who was expelled from the GOOD Party three weeks ago for misconduct.

August was expelled following an exhaustive investigation into a series of smutty media reports and complaints from members of repulsive behaviour in the run-up to a by-election in Witzenberg in June last year.

Two weeks ago August unsuccessfully challenged his expulsion in court, claiming that GOOD best represented his political values. It is noteworthy that the DA and GOOD have fundamentally different values and policy positions.

It is also noteworthy that August’s travel, accommodation and entertainment claims while a member of the legislature are the subject of an internal investigation.

GOOD has written to the Secretary of Parliament to clarify the matter.

Someone who may be particularly interested in this aspect is Masizole Mnqasela, former Speaker of the DA-led provincial legislature, whom the DA recently expelled for alleged fraudulent travel, accommodation and entertainment claims.

We wish the DA and August well in their new relationship.
