Jacana Media has, once again, shown the might of independent publishing by bringing home this year's Outstanding Publisher of the Year Award at the National Arts and Culture Awards, held at Sun City.
And it gets better: Michelle Kekana's debut novel, The Fragile Mental Health of Strong Women, took top honours in the Fiction category. Accepting the award, Michelle said: ‘Learning how to read felt like cracking code. All those squiggly lines that didn't mean anything suddenly had stories, had people, had feelings, had worlds that I hadn't experienced before.’
This win belongs to everyone who's ever picked up a Jacana title. As Publishing Director Bridget Impey put it in her acceptance speech: ‘We need you readers, we really need you. We keep the stories alive, that's what we do, and that's what we need to keep on happening.’
So, let's keep the stories alive together – enjoy 50% off your next Jacana read, valid until 31 August 2026. Use code NACA50 at checkout.
