The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said on Thursday that it hoped to resolve a wage dispute with South Africa's power utility Eskom by Friday.
Spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said that talks between the unions and the utility would continue until late on Thursday.
Eskom workers, represented by the NUM, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa and Solidarity, had deflated their 18% wage demand to 15%, while Eskom had recently upped its offer from a 6% increase to a 7% increase.
However, Seshoka said that Eskom had an emergency meeting on Thursday to refresh its mandate for the negotiations.
"We hope that they will bring a new satisfactory mandate to the negotiations, and that we can resolve this issue over wages."
