The African National Congress in Nokuhamba Nyawo Region welcomes the ruling of the Pietermaritzburg High Court which affirms  the ANC as the governing party in Umtubatuba Local Municipality and Umkhanyakude District Municipality.

Local communities who have been speaking with one voice against the” IFP’s backwardness” are vindicated.

They have consistently labelled Inkatha as the enemy of progress.

From midday, social media pages have been flooded with photos that shows that indeed, Inkatha is a party of warmongers and anarchists.

IFP councillors supported by bodyguards who are moonlighting as Izinkabi (hitmen) prevented  ANC councillors from assuming their responsibilities as directed by the high court.

Local communities have proclaimed that they cannot wait any longer for the ANC to reinstate the party's Mayor and other Office Bearers.

It should be recalled that on the 11th April 2022, KZN Acting Judge President Isaac Madondo ruled that the meeting in Umtubatuba Local Municipality held on the 23rd November 2021 that resulted in the election of ANC’s Cde Mbongeleni Gina as the Mayor was invalid and set aside.

Acting Judge President also declared invalid the election of five ANC councillors from the local municipalities who were sent to the uMkhanyakude District Municipality to represent their political parties.

Fast forward to the 13th June 2023, we wish to inform the people of Umtubatuba Local Municipality that the Pietermaritzburg High Court has granted the following order:-

1. The order granted by Acting Judge President  on 11 April 2022 under case No.11296/21P be and hereby set aside.

2. The costs of those applicants seeking rescission incurred in the rescission application are to be paid by those respondents opposing the application for rescission jointly and severally, the one paying the other to be absolved, such costs to include the costs of the two counsel where so employed.

As the ANC in the region, we believe that this order has paved the way for the organisation of Mama Nokuhamba Nyawo to fulfill its historic mission.

Mama Nyawo envisioned a prosperous Umkhanyakude with communities having access to socio-economic infrastructure such as housing and roads.

We offer to double our efforts to ensure that the people of this district have access to job opportunities created through the rollout of infrastructure.

In particular, we will never rest until there is access sufficient energy and water.

We say so because access to the water in particular is a human right.

In this regard, we are seeing the impact of the work championed by Cde Senzo Mchunu, in his capacity as Minister of Water and Sanitation together with Cde Sphile Mdaka in his capacity as the Mayor of Umkhanyakude.

We note the ongoing progress regarding the refurbishment and upgrading of water schemes.

This has helped restore, augment and expand water supply to communities in various local municipalities such as Jozini, Hlabisa, Big Five, Umhlabuyalingana and Umtubatuba.

This is in line with the commitment made by the ANC leadership during community meetings attended by the Deputy Ministers, David Mahlobo and Judith Tshabalala in May.

Three spheres of government agreed to work collectively with traditional leaders in the interest of the people of this district.

Finally, it should be remembered that during these meetings communities spoke with one voice against with IFP’s backwardness.

Therefore, the latest court order has finally put an end the IFP’s destructive and self-serving conduct.
