Today the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Modimolle-Mookgopong Local Municipality is pleased to announce that Oktaan Street has officially been opened.

Oktaan Street is the main road in the Modimolle industrial area and was in a shockingly bad condition when the DA-led coalition council inherited it in 2016.

From the onset, the DA made a commitment to the local business sector that this road will be repaired and improved.

The project was internally managed by the municipality, municipal workers were utilised to work on the project and only essential equipment was hired.

As a yardstick, National Treasury allocates R8.8 million per kilometre for the construction of new roads but only R1.6 million of municipal funds were utilised for the completion of the entire road and its three intersections.

Oktaan Street connects the R33 main route to businesses in the industrial area and is the vein that leads to economic growth in this area.

There are other streets in the Modimolle industrial area that need upgrades and maintenance and the municipality has commenced with the planning phase for this project.

The completion of upgrades to all these streets will improve the conditions of roads for the business sector, their customers and suppliers.

The DA believes that improved road infrastructure will attract more investment and job creation to our towns, which will improve the lives of all residents.

This project is a testament that the DA gets things done.
