The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) is pleased to announce the release of the 2023 South African Reconciliation Barometer survey report. (It was launched during a media briefing in Cape Town on Thursday 14 December 2023.)

Now in its 20th year, the Reconciliation Barometer is a nationally representative public opinion survey that provides unique insights into two decades of South African democracy. 

This year’s survey results are based on face-to-face interviews with over 2,000 South Africans in seven languages and across all nine provinces of the country.
