In a powerful show of support for change, former ANC members took off their yellow t-shirts and put on DA’s blue in Nazareth, Pinetown, alongside two former ANC Councillors who made their public move to the DA few weeks ago, David Ngubane and Marco Mbambo.

Today, we were joined by the DA Federal Leader Geordin Hill-Lewis and Provincial Leadership as we welcomed these new members, whose decision to leave the ANC signals growing dissatisfaction with the governing party and a desire for a new political direction in eThekwini ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

This decision is a significant political development in the community of Nazareth and a clear indication that the political landscape in eThekwini is changing.

Residents are tired of being taken for granted. They are dealing with persistent water outages, failing infrastructure, deteriorating roads, unreliable electricity supply and neglected public spaces, while the municipality continues to struggle to provide the basic services residents deserve.

The people of Nazareth have sent a clear message today: they want leadership that works, councillors who are accessible and a government that is accountable to the people.

What happened in Nazareth is not an isolated event. Across eThekwini, residents are increasingly looking beyond the ANC and demanding credible leadership, responsible financial management and a municipality that puts service delivery before political interests.

The DA welcomes former ANC members who align with and commit to our values. Taking off the yellow shirt and putting on the blue is more than a change of political colours, it is a declaration of support for the DA offer, and the DA values, and it shows that residents are ready for change.

The people of eThekwini deserve better, and the growing support for the DA in communities such as Nazareth shows that residents are ready to make that change.
