Staff of the COSATU-affiliated Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) will contribute up to one third of their April 2020 salary to South Africa’s COVID-19 Solidarity Fund.
This decision follows after intensive consultation with SACTWU staff, over the last 2 days. The outcome of that consultation process was consolidated in the union’s daily National Extended Secretariat meeting, held early this morning.
The contributions will be secured from SACTWU staff on a voluntary basis.
We do so out of our own free will, and do not regard this as a competition with other organisations. We hope that our small contribution will be helpful to working class communities.
We are of the view that we have a patriotic duty to help combat the spread of the CORONA virus.
