Organised by the Department of Trade and Industry, the roadshow will include presentations on business opportunities in the mining, capital equipment, infrastructure, aerospace, mining, defence, automotive, construction, steel, information and communication technology, services, and safety and security industries.
The event was organised in preparation for the International Engineering and Technology Fair (IETF), which will be cohosted by South Africa and India, in India, from February 9 to 12, 2005.
IETF is a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) flagship event taking place every two years, and is one of the largest events of its kind in Asia. The CII is one of the largest business organisations in India.
The IETF is used by countries and companies to showcase entrepreneurial and technological expertise, and for forming strategic partnerships, business networking and international benchmarking.
As a partner country in this event, South Africa would be accorded special privileges, for example in the run-up to the event, CII would focus on South Africa in several publicity-generating events, including smaller exhibitions, seminars on trade and investment opportunities, official and business missions, and cultural events. The partner country is also accorded prime exhibition space at IETF. It is envisaged that this event will not only provide South African companies unprecedented exposure in India, but also the Asia region.
