During the by-elections contested yesterday in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Northern Cape, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), the African National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Alliance (DA) retained their seats.
The new IFP councillor is:
· Wellington Bonginkosi Nsele in Ward 12 in Mthonjaneni Municipality – KZN285. The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, by winning 63.06% of the total votes cast compared to 58.05% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 65.20%.
The new ANC councillors are:
· Wanda Ngomane in Ward 3 in Nkomazi Municipality – MP324. The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, by winning 66.64% of the total votes cast compared to 73.52% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 27.19%.
· Irvin Kevin Sibiya in Ward 10 in Nkomazi Municipality – MP324. The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 44.87% of the total votes cast compared to 72.63% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 41.44%.
· Gram Lefokisi Donald Sambo in Ward 13 in Bushbuckridge Municipality – MP325. The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 49.63% of the total votes cast compared to 39.19% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 47.51%.
The new DA councillor is:
· Jamie-lee Andrea Simoné Greeff in Ward 21 in Sol Plaatje Municipality – NC091. The party retained the seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, by winning 58.87% of the total votes cast compared to 51.14% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 33.61%.
