This outcome note details the reflection, discussion and learning that were generated in a series of workshops, funded by the Council for British Research in the Levant, that sought to bring together stakeholders from a wide range of organisations led by and supporting refugees.
It aims to ensure that research on refugee camp histories engages with contemporary issues in humanitarian practice, and informs humanitarian policy and practice on refugee camps.
The outcome of the workshop is a call for clear vision rather than clean solutions: to stop treating camps as a problem solvable through the next round of innovation, and to start treating them as a permanent feature of an unequal world that humanitarians can make more or less dignified, but cannot make right on their own.
