The Public Servants Association (PSA) calls on the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), its affiliated unions, and structures to put aside their differences, embrace dialogue, and ensure that the upcoming Congress is conducted successfully with the interests of workers at its centre.
 
The PSA believes that robust debate and differences of opinion are an essential part of any democratic organisation. Trade unions must be able to contest ideas, challenge positions, and defend their mandates. Disagreement should, however, never become so divisive that it threatens the unity, sustainability, and future of the organisation that workers have built over decades. No challenge is too great to overcome when there is a genuine commitment to dialogue, compromise, and the interests of workers.
 
A successful Congress must be about more than competing for positions or internal differences. It must provide an opportunity to reflect on the challenges facing workers, strengthen the labour movement, and develop a clear programme that responds to the realities confronting workers and their families. The PSA echoes the important principle that an organisation must always be bigger than individuals, factions, or temporary differences. Leaders and structures come and go, but institutions built in workers' interests must be protected and strengthened for future generations.
 
Cosatu has an important role to play in South Africa's labour landscape. Its strength ultimately depends on its affiliates and members remaining united around the fundamental objective of advancing and protecting workers' interests. Workers deserve a labour movement that is strong, united, democratic, and capable of confronting challenges.
 
The PSA wishes Cosatu and its affiliates to regroup and host a successful Congress and trusts that the outcome will strengthen the labour movement and deliver a positive future for the workers it represents.
