A power outage and power dip at State-owned power utility Eskom has disrupted operations at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch and Lethabo pumping stations.
A power outage occurred at about 09:45 on Monday and while it was restored shortly thereafter at about 11:20, water system recovery requires an additional four hours to reach full recovery after disruptions.
The interruption temporarily affected water supply to the Palmiet, Eikenhof, Zwartkopjes and Vereeniging–Vanderbijlpark–Sasolburg systems.
Customers supplied by these systems may experience reduced water pressure or complete interruptions to water supply until normal operations are restored.
As a result, customers in the cities of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane, as well as the Mogale City (Kagiso), Rand West, Merafong, Rustenburg, Madibeng, Thembisile Hani, Emfuleni, Metsimaholo and Ngwathe local municipalities and the Royal Bafokeng Administration, may experience water supply disruptions. Various industries, mines and other direct Rand Water customers may also be affected.
Rand Water is closely monitoring the recovery progress of the affected systems and working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
