The Democratic Alliance (DA) Johannesburg is deeply disturbed that coalition chaos in the City has led to the breakdown of the City’s IT services.

While political infighting between the ANC, EFF and PA regarding MMC positions continues, contracts are expiring, and residents are bearing the brunt of this failure.

We have been reliably informed that there are contractual issues between the City and one of its IT-service providers resulting in a major issue for the residents of Johannesburg

Initially, we were under the impression that only the Land Use Department was affected, however, residents are also unable to get building plans. We are now also informed by residents that they are unable to get through to the City to log service delivery queries - including calling the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD). This is a disaster waiting to happen.

The DA has already written to the Acting City Manager, as the accounting officer, and the Executive Mayor to get clarity on the chaos unfolding under their watch.

It is totally unacceptable that residents have to bear the brunt of the coalition chaos of the ANC-EFF-PA.

The DA stands by our residents and we call on the City to, for once, place the residents of Johannesburg above their petty politics.

Issued by Cllr Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku - DA Johannesburg Caucus Leader
