Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie has been elected mayor of the Central Karoo District municipality.
McKenzie stood unopposed for the post.
McKenzie was sworn in as a councillor last Thursday during a council sitting of the Laingsburg Municipality, which effectively paved the way for his nomination as mayor.
He replaces councillor Mitchell Smith who resigned from the party last week.
McKenzie told council members, "... we have a plan". He also told councillors he will not be taking the perks that come with his new post, adding that he will not be claiming for expenses nor will he be using the mayor's official vehicle.
