National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers and South African National Parks will sign a one-year wage agreement, averting the mother of strikes.
SANPARKS workers from its 21 National Parks in seven provinces, within the bargaining unit of Job Grade A1-C5 who were employed prior 01 April 2023, will receive an increase of up to 7.18% that is split for 5% to be implemented from 01 April 2023 and 2.18% from 01 October 2023 until end of March 2024.
Employees will also receive 5% increase of Night Shift Allowance, Danger Allowance, Sleep-Out Allowance, Housing allowance for A & B Band and Tools of trade allowance and cell phone allowance to qualifying employees.
NUPSAW would like to thank all its negotiators for the sterling job done and strides to avert the strike, which was going to cost both parties and for securing above inflation wage increment, given current revenue challenges confronted by our SOE’s and Schedule 3A Public Entities in South Africa.
However, NUPSAW would like to submit that, the struggle is not yet over at SANParks up until a market related salary adjustments are achieved and implemented equally at SANParks without any favour or prejudice, through benchmarking for all Job Grades A1-C5. Closing of wage gaps is important from executive to the general workers and having SANParks not far from its sister institutions under Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE).
Workers are crying out for standardized housing allowance from the executive to the general workers and the issue of pay progression, which was stopped few years after implementation in 2020 due to COVID 19. Further, is the issue of the correct implementation of Total Cost to Company, which outlines the basic salaries and benefits. Lastly, having the BSP and TM (EPWP) having their rights recognized and NUPSAW seating in their bargaining forum.
