The appointment of National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) Acting CEO Waseem Carrim as the new Road Accident Fund (RAF) CEO leaves NSFAS with a leadership vacuum at a time when students can least afford further instability, and Minister Buti Manamela needs to move with speed to fill the leadership gap.
NSFAS is preparing for the 2027 academic year and needs stable leadership. Minister Manamela must act urgently to undertake the appointment process for a suitable, qualified candidate to be appointed as CEO of NSFAS.
Hundreds of thousands of students rely on NSFAS for tuition, accommodation and allowances. The successful start of the 2027 academic year is non-negotiable – NSFAS needs to be ready.
