Taung - North West Premier Kaobitsa Bushy Maape maintains the Accelerated Service Delivery Plan is in full swing. The primary objective of the plan is to change the face of local government by expediting the delivery of services such as patching of potholes, refuse collection and the provision of water. He insists for this plan to work emphasis must be put on stabilizing municipalities. Premier Maape maintains the provincial government is constitutionally obligated to intervene into challenges bedeviling local government. He further announced that he has appointed a committee of three MECs, to look into challenges confronting municipalities.

Municipalities are strategically positioned to roll-out services to our communities. The administrative efficiency and stability of municipalities are of critical importance in speeding up the delivery of services in our province. I have subsequently appointed MEC Motlalepula Rosho, MEC Sello Lehari and MEC Lenah Miga to look into the state of municipalities and where there are challenges a remedial action plan must be developed, remarked Premier Maape.

Premier Maape also announced the appointment of a panel of experts, whose role is to advise government on the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy. This includes Mega Projects that will be carried out by the provincial government in due course.

Our plan is to create sustainable jobs through these projects. There are ongoing engagements with stakeholders in the tourism and agricultural sector as well as the Chamber of Business and these engagements are primarily aimed at devising ways and strategies aimed at resuscitating the economy, said Premier Maape.

Moreover, an Interdepartmental committee on water challenges has been set up and continues to meet regularly. The provincial government recently held a three-day session with the Department of Water and Sanitation and this is aimed at finding solutions to challenges of water provision in the province.

The business fraternity has also thrown its weight behind government with Supreme Chicken looking at expanding their operations in the province. Lafarge has also come forward and has committed to assist in fixing roads in the Ditsobotla Local Municipality.

Concluding the Exco Planning Lekgotla, Premier Maape emphasised that based on the inputs emanating from the Lekgotla, he is more than ready to deliver his much-anticipated maiden State of the Province Address on Friday, 18 February 2022 at the North West Provincial Legislature in provincial capital, Mahikeng.
