Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has appointed Nomfundo Maseti as acting CEO of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa), effective from October 25.
Maseti will serve until the Minister appoints a permanent CEO, the regulator said in a statement that provided no timeline for such an appointment.
Maseti is a full-time regulator member primarily responsible for piped-gas regulation and her appointment follows the expiry of the extended term of office of the outgoing CEO, Advocate Nomalanga Sithole, on October 24.
“The Energy Regulator congratulates Ms Maseti and thanks her for accepting this critical role.
“Her leadership, expertise and institutional knowledge will ensure continuity and maintain regulatory stability in the energy sector during this transition,” acting Nersa chairperson Ria Govender said in a statement.
A separate recruitment process was also under way for the appointment of a permanent chairperson, with Govender having been appointed in an acting capacity on June 15 after Thembani Bukula stepped down for health reasons.
