The DA welcomes the appointment of Adv. Adrian Carl Mopp as Director of Public Prosecutions for the Western Cape Division.

The Western Cape continues to face a severe challenge from organised crime, which fuels gang violence and violent crime in communities across the province. A capable and effective prosecuting authority is essential to ensuring that criminals are brought to book and that justice is served. While arrests are important, it is the certainty of prosecution and conviction that serves as the strongest deterrent to crime.

With more than 30 years of legal and prosecutorial experience, including expertise in prosecuting organised crime, Adv. Mopp brings valuable skills and leadership to this critical position. The DA is hopeful that, under his stewardship, the National Prosecuting Authority in the Western Cape will strengthen its prosecution of organised criminal networks and secure more convictions against those who terrorise our communities.

We wish Adv. Mopp well in this important role. The fight against organised crime requires a prosecuting authority that is effective, independent, and uncompromising, and the DA will closely monitor progress in ensuring that these objectives are achieved.
