The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has granted the Lepelle-Nkumpi local municipality, in Limpopo, a licence to operate an electricity distribution facility and a licence to conduct electricity trading.
The licences relate to the areas of Jackinland, Lebowakgomo Unit R and Motantanyane, which have been earmarked for electrification and are classified as greenfield sites in line with Nersa’s Rules for Distribution Licensable Areas of Supply.
The approval supports the formalisation of electricity distribution and trading activities in the affected areas and provides a regulatory basis for the municipality to proceed with electrification in the identified greenfield areas.
