Government and the South African business sector are currently engaged in a three-day workshop, in Sandton, where they aim to emerge with a national strategy for implementing Nepad in South Africa.
The implementation strategy, which will be branded Nissa, would be presented to Cabinet for consideration once completed, Lindiwe said.
She explained that a clear strategy would assist South Africa taking the lead in the implementation of Nepad projects, which, by nature, were largely multi-country projects.
“We have the political will, we have a government infrastructure that creates the possibility and above all, we are graced with a uniquely vibrant private sector,” she said and urged the South African private sector to invest in Nepad infrastructure, telecommunications, agriculture, health and housing projects.
In addition, the workshop would also help South Africa to prepare for the 14th Summit of the Nepad Heads of State and Government, which is overlooking the implementation of Nepad, and is to be held in Senegal, in June.
She thanked government and business role players attending the workshop for their contribution to the African Pier Review Mechanism (APRM), whereby African leaders submitted themselves for review by peers in the areas of democracy and good political governance, economic governance and management, corporate governance and socio-economic development.
Sisulu said that South Africa would submit the Country Self Assessment Report and Draft National Programme of Action to the South African National APRM Secretariat by July.
Almost half of all African countries had already acceded to an APRM memorandum of understanding and she said that the pace of peer reviews was accelerating.
