South Africa’s economy is closely intertwined with nature. By embedding nature in strategy, South African companies will be better able to align their reporting with the requirements of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), thereby futureproofing themselves against nature-related risks and building long-term resilience. In turn, this will ensure their desirability to investors.

There is an opportunity to transform how organisations understand their relationship with nature and to create a financial system that recognises the natural world not as an externality, but as a foundational asset on which all economic prosperity depends.

This report is the third in the “Financing nature” series. Its subtitle, “Taking the leap from framework to practice”, highlights the report’s practical insights into TNFD’s Locate, Evaluate, Assess and Prepare (LEAP) approach. LEAP can provide users with insights into nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. The report includes detailed guidance on the LEAP approach, outlining the framework’s structure and informing implementation. In addition, it includes sector-specific examples of how LEAP can strengthen nature-related disclosures in the mining and agriculture sectors.

WWF continues to support the corporate sector in building capacity and improving nature-related disclosures.
