The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Rand West City Local Municipality notes with concern the fact that the municipality forms part of the list of municipalities that will be impacted by the temporary withholding of the July 2026 equitable share transfer.

This is due to Rand Water’s outstanding debt of R950 538 000 as per the information provided by National Treasury.

The ANC-led municipality is struggling to manage the water losses that have spiralled out of control and are currently above 60%.

We are calling for the municipality to comply with National Treasury’s demands so that funding will be granted.

The failure of the ANC-led administration to effectively take control of the water losses has resulted in the temporary withholding of crucial funding to a financial struggling municipality.

Register to vote DA on 4 November 2026, so that Rand West City can get a government that will fight for a financially sustainable municipality that prioritises service delivery.
