Namibia has recorded four new imported cases of Covid-19, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to local daily newspaper The Nation, health minister Kalumbi Shangula said the four patients had been quarantined in Windhoek.

Three of the patients were Indian women who travelled to Namibia on June 17. They showed no symptoms of the virus but were placed in quarantine, as per protocol. All three were in satisfactory condition, said the minister.

The other patient was a 21-year-old Namibian student who travelled from South Africa on May 29. The student had also been quarantined in Windhoek. The minister said he had symptoms related to the virus, but initial test results reflected negative. After a second test on June 21, the result was confirmed positive.

The New Era newspaper reported that testing of Grade 11 learners and teachers had started at the Mariental High School after a pupil tested positive for Covid-19. Grade 12 learners were expected to be swabbed on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Eswatini health minister Lizzie Nkosi on Tuesday reported one Covid-19 related death, bringing the country's coronavirus-related deaths to seven.

"The patient is a 73-year-old male from the Hhohho Region, who died at one of the health facilities on Sunday June 21, while in isolation, and before the release of positive results," said Nkosi.

"His condition was worsened by the presence of pre-existing illness," she said in a statement.

Nkosi also announced 31 new Covid-19 infections, taking the country's tally to 674. She said 319 people had recovered from the virus since the outbreak was detected.

Lesotho also reported five new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. The health ministry said via a statement that three of the cases were Basotho with travel histories to South Africa, one Mosotho with no travel history, and a South African national.

This brings to 17 the total number of Covid-19 infections in Lesotho. The country has recorded two recoveries and no deaths thus far.
