Political analyst Moeletsi Mbeki talks to Creamer Media's Polity on the medium-term view of the South African economy where he sees a contradiction between a projected future decline in mineral exports and increasing state debt driven by welfare obligations. Mbeki, brother of former South Africa president Thabo Mbeki, also contends that the South African government is not coping with its obligations as it has no clear plans for housing the urbanising population and has no plan for youth unemployment. Mbeki is also critical of ongoing South African government policies of racial preference. He argues for a transparent system of mineral rights regime in order to create an environment that is not prone to corruption.
