The uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party highlighted on Friday that its position remains unchanged and that the party will attend Parliament proceedings only based on the outcome of its court proceedings.

Parliament is due to hold its first sittings of the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces, which will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The party is heading to court to present evidence that the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) rigged the elections to the detriment of the MK Party and other parties.

The party said it noted with concern some “mischievous” media reports suggesting that it has changed its stance regarding its decision not to attend Parliament owing to alleged election rigging by the IEC.

The MK Party said it will only consider entering Parliament once its urgent court application is concluded.

The party threatened to order the party’s MPs to collapse Parliament and the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature if its demand for a recount of election ballots is not met.

The MK Party alleged there were incidents of voter rigging in the May 29 general elections, where the party secured 45 seats in the KZN Legislature and 58 in the National Assembly.

While addressing supporters, former President Jacob Zuma claimed that IEC officials took MK votes and gave them to other political parties.

“We wish to reiterate that our position remains unchanged and that we will attend Parliament proceedings only based on the outcome of the court proceedings,” said the MK Party.
