The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, officially opened the new Home Affairs office today at Atlantis City Mall in the Western Cape, marking another step forward in the Department's mission to make Home Affairs services more accessible, convenient and dignified for South Africans.

The office has relocated from the Hartebeeskraal Thusong Centre in Sherwood, where limited space and security challenges affected both clients and staff. The new premises offer a safer and more suitable environment, while bringing essential Home Affairs services closer to where residents live, work and shop. The office operates on a walk-in basis, allowing residents to access services without the need for prior appointments or bookings.

The relocation forms part of the Department's Home Affairs @ home reform programme, which is transforming its network of Home Affairs offices by bringing services closer to communities. Together with the rapid expansion of the Department's Digital Partnership with banks, this has grown the national service delivery footprint to 1 025 locations, comprising 355 Home Affairs offices and 670 participating bank branches.

Minister Schreiber said: "For too long, South Africans have been expected to put up with offices that fall short of the standards they deserve. By moving our Atlantis office into a modern, secure and accessible shopping mall, we are changing that reality and showing what it means to put the dignity of South Africans first.

This is Home Affairs @ home in action. The opening of this office forms part of our broader mission to fundamentally transform Home Affairs through digital innovation, modern infrastructure and a culture of service excellence. We are building a Department that works for South Africans, rather than expecting South Africans to work around outdated systems and processes.”

Issued by Spokesperson to the Minister of Home Affairs Carli van Wyk
