MHLATHUZE Water urges members of the public to be wary of unscrupulous people approaching them with offers of job placements within the organisation in exchange for cash.

The warning comes after Mhlathuze Water received a complaint from a victim who was asked to pay R4 000 to someone who had called her claiming to be from the water utility’s Human Resources Department.

The victim, who has since laid a charge with the police, said the anonymous caller had promised her a position that had been advertised by Mhlathuze Water late last year.
The scamster, the victim further alleged, also coaxed her into referring him to other job seekers who were willing to part with cash in return for bogus placements within the organisation.

Mhlathuze Water Spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo urged members of the public to always be at their wits lest they become the next target.

“We warn the public not to fall victim to the antics of conscienceless swindlers seeking to take advantage of the genuine desperation of job seekers. As Mhlathuze Water we have a strict recruitment policy which forbids the acceptance of cash for jobs. All our vacancies are advertised on our website, social media platforms and mainstream media. Furthermore, we subject all shortlisted applicants to a transparent interview process, and successful candidates are notified telephonically and in writing.

We therefore warn job seekers to refrain from entertaining people who request cash for jobs, this is not a prerequisite to get a job within Mhlathuze Water. When in doubt, members of the public should inquire with us on the status of any advertised job opening. We urge anyone else who might have already fallen prey to a similar scam to bring it to the attention of law enforcement authorities."
