Deputy President Paul Mashatile gave public assurances on Tuesday that he is recovering well following a recent undisclosed minor medical procedure.

Following the advice of his medical team, the Deputy President will continue to rest until he is cleared to return to office full-time.

In the interim, Mashatile assured the public that all his official duties and delegated responsibilities are being managed by his team, alongside key stakeholders in government, business and other sectors.

Mashatile expressed his “deep appreciation” to his family, government colleagues, and the public for their support during his recovery period.

"I wish to thank my family, the medical team who continue to care for me, my team in the office, my colleagues in government, and in the ANC, and most importantly, President Ramaphosa and all South Africans who have sent messages of support. Your prayers and encouragement have been a source of strength,” he said through his office.

He further reassured the nation of his continued dedication to his role and stated that he looks forward to returning to his duties with renewed energy and commitment.

Last month, President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his satisfaction with Mashatile’s recovery after visiting him.

The President confirmed that the minor surgical procedure was successful and echoed the sentiment that the Deputy President would be back at work in due course.
