The Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade (IFPYB) National Executive Committee warmly welcomes the announcement of Comrade Mlungisi Mabaso as the IFP’s Mayoral Candidate for the City of Johannesburg.

This announcement by the President of the Inkatha Freedom Party, Honourable Velenkosini Hlabisa, represents a significant milestone not only for the many capable young leaders within the IFP, but also for the millions of young South Africans who continue to call for meaningful youth representation across the country’s political landscape.

Comrade Mabaso has served the IFP with distinction in various leadership roles within both the Party and its youth structures. He currently serves as the National Secretary of the IFP Youth Brigade, a position he has occupied with dedication, discipline and unwavering commitment.

His nomination is a testament to the IFP’s firm belief that young people are not merely the leaders of tomorrow, but are fully equipped to lead today.

As the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Human Settlements in the City of Johannesburg, Comrade Mabaso has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a proven track record of service delivery. Under his stewardship, the Department has prioritised the reduction of a housing backlog dating back to 1996, while ensuring that senior citizens and vulnerable communities receive access to safe and dignified housing.

He has also led decisive interventions to improve living conditions in informal settlements through the provision of electricity, flush sanitation, and other essential services. His leadership has further advanced the conversion of hostels into family units and expanded access to affordable accommodation through social housing programmes.

This record of performance and commitment to the people places Comrade Mabaso among the most capable and qualified leaders to govern the City of Johannesburg.

The IFP Youth Brigade is confident that, under his leadership, Johannesburg can be restored to a city of excellence. He is well positioned to tackle the pressing challenges confronting residents, including corruption, crime, unreliable water supply, unemployment, and the broader socio-economic hardships affecting young people.

The people of Johannesburg can trust Comrade Mabaso to lead an administration that puts residents first, restores effective governance, and creates meaningful opportunities for young people.

The IFP Youth Brigade therefore calls on all young people, irrespective of political affiliation, to register to vote and to support the Inkatha Freedom Party in the upcoming Local Government Elections in the City of Johannesburg and across South Africa.

Issued by National Chairperson and IFP Youth Brigade Sanele Zondo
