The IFP in Gauteng is impressed with the sterling performances displayed by Gauteng’s very own Cameron van der Burgh and his contemporary Durban star Chad Le Clos for thrashing all odds to bag gold for Team SA at the London Olympics.

As the IFP we are honored to applaud the two athletes who proved beyond doubt that South African athletes possess great talent and can shine in the biggest stage and surpass the who’s who of different sporting codes in the world.

Van der Burg astonished everyone when he embezzled gold for conquering the planet’s best in the men’s 100m breaststroke in a 58.6 second world record, but Le Clos was not to be overwhelmed by the occasion as he went on to emulated the former’s glory with an emphatic domination in the men’s 200m butterfly final which was enough to see him claim gold at an expense of America’s finest Michael Phelps.

“It is highly exhilarating to see our stars even those discovered and natured in Gauteng being able to go all out to represent and vie at the highest level and still emerge victorious and this to us is a great echoing of Gauteng being the “home of champions” in South Africa, “says IFP Caucus Leader in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) Bonginkosi Dhlamini.

“In conclusion we would like to pay homage to the two gold medalists without downplaying the efforts of the other team players who have and those who are due to fly the South African flag at the Olympics, we would like to thank all those who are instrumental in keeping our athletes in shape, to them we say great work and let this be continuous,” adds Bonginkosi Dhlamini.
