DA Cape Town mayoral candidate Geordin Hill-Lewis has declared that the good governance President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledges in DA-led municipalities must become the standard across South Africa, rather than the exception.
Speaking at the party’s latest billboard unveiling in Cape Town, Hill-Lewis positioned the DA's track record not just as a “local success story”, but as a blueprint for the entire nation.
The centrepiece of the DA’s new campaign is a striking admission from Ramaphosa. Hill-Lewis highlighted a statement made by Ramaphosa to thousands of ANC councillors, in 2025, where he remarked that, “Those municipalities that do best are not ANC-controlled municipalities ... they are often DA-controlled municipalities.”
According to Hill-Lewis, the President went as far as encouraging ANC officials to visit Cape Town and Stellenbosch to observe firsthand how the DA manages local government.
"I agree with the President," Hill-Lewis said. "And I thank him for that clear endorsement of DA governance, and for acknowledging what millions of South Africans already know from their own lived experience: where the DA governs, things work better."
The mayoral candidate emphasised that basic, reliable service delivery should not be a luxury.
He outlined the core expectations that every citizen should have of their local government, noting that every South African deserves a municipality that delivers clean water, fixes potholes, collects refuse, keeps public spaces safe and spends public money on the people it is meant to serve.
Every South African deserves to live in a town or city where businesses can grow, investment can flow, and jobs can be created, Hill-Lewis said.
Every South African deserves a government that works for them, regardless of who they are or where they live, he added.
Hill-Lewis argued that this level of governance is the bedrock of economic growth, creating environments where businesses can expand, investments can flow, and sustainable jobs can be generated.
While acknowledging that there is always more work to be done in existing DA-led areas, Hill-Lewis insisted that their current record proves capable governance is entirely achievable.
"That is not an impossible dream. We are already doing it," he stated, urging voters to transition from wishing for a better future to actively creating one at the ballot box.
"Don't just hope for change. Vote for change. Because South Africa can work. For everyone."
