FNB has reiterated its commitment to support safer and convenient access to social grants by availing its world-class digital channels, vast network of over 600 branches, and more than 5 000 ATMs nationwide to be used by social grant beneficiaries.

CEO of FNB Consumer Core Banking, Ancley Jacobs says, “Social grants play a vital role in our society and as part of industry, we firmly support measures to prioritise health and livelihoods by facilitating safer and convenient access. Since last year, we have put in place stringent safety measures across our points of presence network and in light of the second wave of Covid-19, we are intensifying efforts to encourage customers, including social grant beneficiaries, to consider safer ways to bank.”

To receive social grants, beneficiaries can use the FNB Easy Zero bank account which has no monthly account fee. The account can be opened digitally on any cellphone with no need to fill in paperwork or to go to a branch. Users of the account can purchase prepaid airtime or data without paying any fees when using the FNB App and Cellphone Banking. There are free cash deposits up to R1 500 per month and no fees when swiping your FNB bank card at a point of sale.  As a safety measure, no debit orders can be processed on the Easy Zero bank account to give customers peace of mind.  Customer can manage the account digitally and those with bank cards can also swipe, scan, or tap at a point of sale.

“In the event that a customer needs cash, all our individual customers can get cash using Cash@Till at Checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, selected SPAR and Usave tills at no extra charge, this is another way we help our customers better manage their money. Customer who wish to use any of our points of presence like FNB ATMs and branches are urged to adhere to basic safety protocols including social distancing and sanitising. We also encourage customers to use digital channels like the FNB App which does not require data, Online or Cellphone Banking. Digital channels help to avoid queues and congestion, which pose high risk to efforts to contain the spread of the virus,” concludes Jacobs.

While FNB continues to help facilitate the distribution to social grants, beneficiaries must contact the relevant social services authority for assistance with administration of social grants.
