Dr. Pieter Mulder, Leader of the Freedom Front Plus, on behalf of the party congratulated former president Nelson Mandela on his ninety-fourth birthday, today.

Mulder pointed out that Mandela himself had warned that he should not be made out to be some holy person. He rather emphasized his own humanity and fallibility.

As a young man, Mandela stated that he had fought against white domination as he had fought against black domination. For this he had struggled. His era of government was also marked by his personal attempts of reconciliation between everyone in South Africa. It remains his big contribution. Presently the ANC is preaching this viewpoint when it suites them, such as today, but allow some ANC youth and other leaders to do the opposite without reprimanding them.

May the celebration of Mr. Mandela’s birthday bring about that we once again look at his views on harmony and cooperation in this country and not only talk about it but also do something concrete about it.
