Anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Kathrada will turn 87 on August 21. Two events will be taking place the next day, Monday, August 22 in Cape Town.
1. Bonteheuwel school visit
On Monday morning, Bonteheuwel High School pupils will engage the veteran in conversation. This is the same school that young martyr and freedom fighter, Ashley Kriel attended. Kriel's sister, Michel Assure, and Nadine Cloete, producer of a documentary on Kriel's life, Action Kommandant, will also be in attendance, along with MK veterans.
Date: Monday, 22 August 2016
Time: 9.30am – 11am - Kathrada will engage with staff, students and local activists on the liberation struggle. This will be followed by the presentation of a birthday cake to Kathrada.

2. Documentary screening
On Monday evening, Stellenbosch University Museum will host Kathrada for a special documentary screening of the film Ahmed Kathrada: A Man for All Seasons. This will be followed by a discussion with the stalwart. (Please note that no video recording will be allowed during the documentary, due to copyright agreements.)
