Despite spending 104% of its budget in the 2025/26 financial year, the City of Ekurhuleni Department of Human Settlements only managed to achieve 50% of its targets, leaving thousands of residents without dignified housing.

This atrocious outcome is the hallmark of governance under the current ANC-led coalition, where poor planning and financial mismanagement have become the status quo.

Projects including Clayville Extension 45, Tembisa Extension 27, the Six Hostels Re-development Programme, Airport Park, and the Palmfontein Housing Project have stagnated due to a lack of funding.

Contractors and service providers have abandoned several sites because their invoices remain unpaid, leaving these incomplete projects open to vandalism and theft.

The DA has already highlighted a R7.5 billion financial crisis in the City at the hands of the ANC. Continued financial mismanagement of funds allocated to service delivery and capital projects is deepening this crisis.

We demand urgent intervention to restore financial discipline and settle outstanding payments owed to contractors.

A DA-led City of Ekurhuleni will accelerate stalled housing developments and ensure that every Rand allocated to Human Settlements delivers tangible outcomes for the people of Ekurhuleni.

Come 4 November 2026, Ekurhuleni residents will have the power to usher in a DA government that will work tirelessly to improve their lives.
