The Democratic Alliance Women’s Network (DAWN) in KwaZulu-Natal is calling for justice to prevail after a 7-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father, who is also a public representative, in the Ematimatolo area on the night of 16 March 2023.

Today we attended the accused father’s appearance at the Greytown Magistrates Court to offer support to the victim, the case has been postponed to 08 August 2023 and he will remain in custody.

According to reports, the said man was a candidate for a by-election in Ward 2 of uMvoti and this was not his first rape case.

It is appalling that public representatives who are trusted to look after their communities, blatantly engage in such heinous crimes. The DA is therefore calling for the justice system to ensure that justice is served and that the girl gets the social support that she needs.

Violence against women and children should never be tolerated.
